John J. Geary grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from Providence College in 1974. He earned his Master in Public Administration from the University of Rhode Island in 1977 and his Law Degree from Western New England School of Law in 1985. John is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Prior to forming Geary & Associates, John was the Managing Attorney at Geary, Weafer & Garretson in Quincy, MA from 1989 to 1996. Geary, Weafer & Garretson was a 16 attorney insurance defense office dedicated to handling lawsuits for Aetna Casualty & Surety. Under John’s leadership, the office consistently achieved excellent trial results; over 300 cases were tried during this time period. The office also had an extensive Workers’ Compensation practice.
While at Geary, Weafer & Garretson, John obtained numerous Superior and District Court verdicts; many of these were high exposure cases (liability in excess of $100,000.00). John concentrated his personal practice on cases involving construction injuries, accidents involving the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act, Premises Liability and Negligent Security.
John was a regional attorney for Aetna Casualty & Surety based in Hartford, Connecticut for many years. Before earning his law degree, John was a Manager with Aetna’s Actuarial, Industry Affairs & Financial Services Division.
Since entering private practice in 1996, John has used his business, management and trial experience to bring quality legal services to clients from varied and diverse backgrounds. John’s practice is presently devoted primarily to criminal defense and civil litigation. John was named Advocate of the Year in 2019 by Pilgrim Advocates, Inc. He is on the Murder Panel with the Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services where he represents indigent clients who have been charged with murder.
MaryKate J. Geary
MaryKate J. Geary grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts. She is a 2008 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Commonwealth College Honors Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. MaryKate is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
MaryKate graduated Summa Cum Laude from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2011. She received the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Civil Procedure, Legal Methods, Constitutional Law, Wills & Trusts, and Evidence.
MaryKate was a member and articles editor of the Roger Williams University Law Review and a member of the Honors Program.
Prior to joining Geary & Associates, P.C., MaryKate was an associate with the Law Firm of Conway Stoughton, LLC in West Hartford, Connecticut. While there her practice focused on Civil Litigation.
Upon graduation from law school, MaryKate clerked for the Connecticut Superior Court in New London, Connecticut. During law school, MaryKate completed an externship for the Honorable Mary M. Lisi of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
MaryKate was named a New England 2019 Rising Star in Criminal Defense by Super Lawyers.
